Abstract:
Plastic film used in agricultural fields help increase crop yields by warming soil temperature, maintaining soil humidity, preventing weed growth, and other factors. It has become an important agriculture production material in recent years. Over the past three decades, the amount and application area of plastic film have increased steadily, but most plastic is non-biodegradable and accumulates as waste after use. Thus, the use of biodegradable mulch film, which is amenable to onsite disposal, could be a solution to such problems. An aliphaticearomatic biodegradable copolyester, poly(-butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) possesses biodegradability but also has good mechanical and thermal properties, thus, it is expected used in various applications. Most importantly, due to its ability to form good film, it is expected to be a material for biodegradable film. However, the degradation characteristics and environmental impact factors of biodegradable mulch are still unclear. Therefore, it is important to study the degradation law and safety of PBAT biodegradable mulch under different water conditions. 【Objective】In order to find out the effect of soil moisture factors on the degradation of plastic film.【Method】Three kinds of poly (adipic acid) / butylene terephthalate (PBAT) biodegradable mulching films were used as experimental materials. The indoor culture experiments were carried out under the soil water conditions of 15%, 25% and 35% to study the degradation characteristics, and to explore the response of mulch film degradation characteristics to different water conditions, and its relationship with soil microorganisms, relationship between enzyme activity. 【Results】The biodegradable mulch film containing PBAT as the main component can be degraded after being applied to the soil. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show that the biodegradable mulch film has a large number of microscopic holes after 130 d incubation. The carbonyl groups index also gradually increased with the increase of degradation time. Under the same water condition, the change trend of microbial and enzyme activities in the film soil was roughly film A> film B> film C> film D, which is consistent with the trend of the degradation rate of each biodegradable mulch film, indicating that microorganisms play an important role in the degradation of the mulch film. Under different water conditions, there is no significant difference in soil microbial and enzyme activities under 15% and 25% water conditions, but both are significantly higher than 35% water condition(P < 0.05), the degradation rate of mulch is consistent with the change law of microbial activity, indicating that differences in soil microbial activities caused by water conditions. 【Conclusion】PBAT biodegradable mulch film can be degraded, and the degradation is fastest under 25% water condition. Differences in soil water conditions and three-dimensional structure of mulch film are the main factors affecting the difference in degradation rate of biodegradable mulch film. Therefore, when the biodegradable mulch film is applied in the field, it is necessary to take the local soil moisture condition into consideration, and choose a biodegradable mulch film with a moderate degradation cycle to prevent damage too soon and prematurely.
