This paper aims to explore the application of satellite remote sensing technology to evaluate the salt prevention effect of channel lining in Hetao irrigation area.【Method】Multi-temporal Landsat8 multi-spectral satellite remote sensing images were collected, and the saline-alkali land in hetao irrigation area was automatically extracted by ISODATA clustering method. Then, a buffer zone with d width on both sides of the channel was generated by spatial analysis method. The area S of saline-alkali land in the buffer was calculated, and the density index φ was constructed, and the φ-d relation curve was obtained.【Result】The results showed that the saline-alkali land area on both sides of the channel decreased significantly after the channel lining, and the saline-alkali land area distribution curve showed a step-like feature. 【Conclusion】(1) Channel lining can effectively inhibit the soil salinization process on both sides of saline-alkali land. From 2013 to 2016, the saline-alkali land area within 500m on both sides of the lined channel decreased by 49.63% and 86.81%, respectively. In the range of 1000m, the saline-alkali land area decreased by 47.95% and 95.06%, respectively. In the range of 1500m, the saline-alkali land area decreased by 54.56% and 95.68% respectively. (2) It is feasible to evaluate the salt prevention effect of large-scale channel engineering by satellite remote sensing technology. (3) before and after lining, φ-d relation curve changes, indicating that the spatial distribution pattern of saline-alkali land changes from the original uniform distribution to the present concentrated distribution.
