Effect of Ridge width on maize water and fertilizer use efficiency under ridge-furrow rainfall harvesting planting mode

Abstract:
【Objective】In order to explore the effect of different ridge width on maize water and fertilizer use efficiency under ridge-furrow rainfall harvesting planting mode. 【Method】we used ridge-furrow rainfall harvesting planting mode during 2018-2019 years, using traditional plain cropping (ridge width 60cm) as control, researched the effect of three furrow-ridge ratios [60:50,60:60;60:70(cm: cm)] on maize leaf area index, aboveground biomass, water use efficiency, fertilizer use efficiency and yield. 【Result】The results show that, compare with traditional plain cropping, ridge-furrow rainfall harvesting planting technique can increase maize aboveground biomass, yield, leaf area index, water use efficiency and fertilizer use efficiency. Under ridge-furrow rainfall harvesting planting mode, adopt furrow-ridge ratio 60cm:60cm, the two-years average leaf area index was the largest at 2.9, which increase of 42.16% over the control; yield was the highest at 13.13 t?hm-2, which increase of 26.37% over the control ; water use efficiency was the highest at 27.15 k?hm-2?mm-1, with increase of 42.37% over the control; fertilizer utilization efficiency was the highest N:7.55 kg?kg-1;P:48.49 kg?kg-1;K:4.66 kg?kg-1, with increase of 177.57%, 142.69%, 59.58% over the control respectively. 【Conclusion】Therefore, in north China, use ridge-furrow rainfall harvesting planting mode, furrow-ridge ratio is 60 cm:60 cm which can promote maize production , water and fertilizer use efficiency.
