Effects of Plastic Film Mulching on Water Consumption Structure and Water Use Efficiency of Spring Maize in the Hetao Irrigation District

Abstract:
Abstract: 【Background】 Plastic film mulching has been widely used in the Hetao Irrigation District of Inner Mongolia Because it could improve soil temperature, saved soil moisture and increased yield, especially black plastic film mulching, transparent plastic film mulching. The study of evapotranspiration, evapotranspiration partitioning under different color plastic film mulching were of great significance for improving water use efficiency, making reasonable irrigation schedule planning water diversion from the Yellow River.【Objective】To explore the effects of different color plastic film mulching on the evapotranspiration, evapotranspiration partitioning and field water balance of spring maize. In the Hetao Irrigation District carried out black plastic film mulching (M2), transparent plastic film mulching (M1) and non-mulching(M0) of spring maize experiment.【Method】Used the water balance method, micro-lysimeter, measured and calculated the soil moisture content, evaporation, evapotranspiration and evapotranspiration partitioning during the maize growth stage, Quantified water balance and water use efficiency in field【Result】In the 0~120 cm soil profile, the soil moisture content with plastic film mulching significantly higher than that of the non-mulching treatment, and the water storage capacity of M1 and M2 was better than that of M0 treatment, Meanwhile, the plastic film mulching treatment significantly reduced the evapotranspiration of spring maize field, which was reduced by 6.49% and 8.18%, respectively, compared with M0 treatment. Compared with M0, M1 and M2 reduced 31.2% and 35.8% of soil evaporation, respectively, which changed the evapotranspiration partitioning, resulting in more ineffective water consumption and converted to water used by crops, thus improved the yield and water use efficiency of spring maize. Compared with M0 treatment, the yield of M1 and M2 treatment increased by 21.87% and 10.43%, respectively. Water use efficiency increased by 29.1% and 20.2%, respectively. Moreover,Compared with black plastic film mulching film, transparent plastic film mulching consumed more soil moisture content, but at the same time It can use more capillary water to increase yield and water use efficiency in the later stage. 【Conclusion】In the Hetao Irrigation District, plastic film mulching technology can effectively improve the water consumption structure of spring maize filed and increase the yield and water use efficiency. Compared with black plastic film mulching, transparent plastic film mulching are still the most suitable agronomic measure in the Hetao Irrigation District.
