Abstract:
【objective】Soil water retention curve (SWRC) is crucial parameters for quantitative studies on soil hydrological processes and solute transport in soil, To provide a practical functional tool for estimating soil hydraulics parameters in the lower hilly areas of the upper Yangtze River.【method】This study investigates the soil-water characteristic curve and the selected physical and chemical properties of soils under three different land use types in Yanting Wan"an watershed located at the hilly area of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The experimental data were fitted to the soil-water retention model of van Genuchten (1980), and Pearson correlation analysis were conducted. Pedotransfer functions for estimating the van Genuchten"s equation parameters, qr、qs、α and n, were established and verified through multiple stepwise linear regression analyses. 【result】The results showed :(1) the soil-water retention capacity followed the order: paddy field > upland > forest land, while the soil water supply capacities were not significant among different land use types; (2) the coefficient of determination (R2) of the estimated SWRCs, compared with the measured ones, was greater than 0.97 across the three land use types, and the best fitting was obtained in upland, reaching 0.99, (3) that the estimation accuracies of the soil transfer function developed in this study were higher than those of four commonly used transfer functions proposed by Vereecken et al (1989), Wosten et al (1999), Weynants et al (2009), and Schaap et al (2001).【conclusion】The soil transfer function constructed in this paper can be used as a practical tool for estimating the parameters of the soil moisture characteristic curve model in this region.
