A study on eddy-prevention based on a new combination of symmetric cochlear shell type and diversion cone

Abstract:
In order to verify the effectiveness of the axial pump station, the full-field CFD numerical simulation was studied, focused on the wall vortex formed behind the closed sump and the bottom velocity singularity area at the bottom of the horn.A new combination of symmetric cochlear shell type and diversion cone were proposed and optimized. Numerical simulation results show that symmetric cochlear shell type improves the efficiency and velocity uniformity and the diversion cone can effectively occupy the water flow singularity area and guide the water flow into the horn mouth. The reasonable sized diversion cone has little influence on the pumping efficiency.Diversion cone height ratio 0.4 was suggested. The symmetric cochlear shell type and diversion cone has been applied to Zhenjiang Guishan Gate Pumping Station Project, with good eddy-prevention function.
