The spatial and temporal variation rules of groundwater depth and salinity in Hetao Irrigation District based on geostatistics

Abstract:
【Objective】For analyzing the spatial and temporal variation rules of groundwater depth and salinity and their impact factors in Hetao Irrigation Distract.【Method】This paper takes Hetao Irrigation District in Inner Mongolia as the research area by using geostatistics and GIS spatial analysis tools.【Result】The results showed that: 1.From 1998 to 2017, groundwater depth and its spatial variability increased gradually, while groundwater salinity and its spatial variability increased first and then decreased. The nugget coefficient of groundwater depth and salinity are small, which demonstrate that environmental factors are the major impact factors rather than human activities. The nugget coefficient of groundwater salinity increased gradually, which shows that the random variability caused by human factors increases. The spatial autocorrelation distance and spatial continuity of groundwater depth and salinity increased gradually. 2.The groundwater depth along the Yellow River in the southwest of the irrigated area is relatively shallow, while the northwest and northeast along the Wolf Mountains are relatively deep. The area with pumping Wells was found to own deeper groundwater depth. The areas with higher salinity are distributed in the northwest and southeast of the irrigated areas, while the groundwater salinity in the southwest and central region is lower. 3.In the wet year, great amount of recharge caused shallower groundwater depth, and lower groundwater salinity.【Conclusion】The groundwater depth is relatively shallow in regions with higher groundwater salinity, and relatively deep in regions with lower groundwater salinity.
