Abstract:
The shortage of water resources, the salinization of soil and the low utilization of fertilizer are three main factors that restrict the sustainable development of agriculture in Hetao irrigation district, Inner Mongolia. With the implementation of water-saving projects and the water restriction of the Yellow River Convervancy Commission, the amount of water diverted from the Yellow River has been greatly reduced. The allocation of water resources, irrigation methed, water and fertilizer operation and the ecological environment of the irrigation district have changed greatly. In the construction of the modern irrigation area, there were many new problems, which were needed theoretical support to explore their mechanism. In this paper, research results were summarized in the recent 20 years, including: the research of agricultural water consumption, the theory of efficient water-saving irrigation, the irrigation system of water-saving and salt control, the effect of water-saving on crop quality, the coupling mechanism of water and nitrogen, the coupling mechanism organic and inorganic fertilizer in salinized irrigation area. Based on the ecological security of irrigation area, we should pay attention to efficient water-saving, irrigation system, the crops quality, soil carbon and nitrogen cycle, nitrogen mineralization and the application of modern technology in the future.
