Experimental Study and Numerical Simulation on Eccentric Venturi flowmeter

Abstract:
【Objectives】When the traditional Venturi flow meter is used for water measurement in low-pressure pipeline irrigation system, the upstream side is prone to silting, which affects the accuracy of flow measurement. To overcome this defect, a new type of eccentric Venturi current measuring device is proposed. 【Method】A flow-3D numerical simulation model was established for eccentric venturi pipes with straight section diameter DN100 and diameter reduction ratio 0.35,and a comparative analysis was conducted with the real FLOW test. 【Result】The results show that the discharge coefficient of the numerical model is basically consistent with the discharge coefficient of the real FLOW test, which proves that it is feasible to use flow-3D to simulate an eccentric Venturi.The relative error degree of eccentric Venturi flowmeter is less than 5%, which can meet the requirement of irrigation pipe flow measurement.【Conclusion】The eccentric Venturi flowmeter has a good application prospect in the field of low-pressure pipeline irrigation system.
