Effect of Water and Salt Stress on Seedling Growth of Early-maturing Cotton Variety "Zhongmian 619"

Abstract:
【Background】Cotton is the longest industrial chain cash crop in Chinese cultivation industry. However, as the main cotton producing area-southern Xinjiang, the problem of residual mulch film in cotton fields has become more and more serious, the soil environment has deteriorated, which has seriously affected the growth of cotton and yield quality. Therefore, how to alleviate the damage of residual film in cotton fields has become a practical problem to be solved urgently in cotton production in southern Xinjiang. The new early-maturing cotton variety suitable for filmless cultivation,"Zhongmian 619", has been successfully planted in southern Xinjiang, providing an important way to solve the "white pollution" of cotton fields. Of course, the cotton planting mode has changed from drip irrigation under mulch to drip irrigation without mulch,led to a significant increase in ground evaporation, a significant increase in water consumption of cotton, and increased salt accumulation on the surface, which will cause drought and salt stress to occur simultaneously to varying degrees, which is not conducive to cotton seeds Germination and seedling growth. There are few research reports on the germination and seedling growth of early-maturing cotton planted without membrane. Therefore, to study the effects of water and salt stress on the growth, chlorophyll content (SPAD value), photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescein of early-maturing cotton seedlings, the aim was to find out the suitable irrigation quota, irrigation quota and salt conditions for the new varieties of early-maturing cotton "Zhongmian 619" for germination and seedling growth.To provide support for the promotion of filmless planting technology in southern Xinjiang. 【Objective】To study the effect of water and salt stress and drought tolerance of seedling growth of early maturing cotton "Zhongmian 619" suitable for membrane-free planting. 【Method】The experiment was carried out in an artificial climate room, with a total of three water treatments: I1 (1.0 ET), I2 (0.8 ET), and I3 (0.6 ET), and T1 (50 mmol/L) and T2 (100 mmol/L) , T3 (150 mmol/L) 3 salt treatments, and 1.0 ET salt-free treatment as a control (CK), studied the effects of water and salt stress on cotton seedling plant height, leaf area, root biomass, and chlorophyll content (SPAD value) , Photosynthetic parameters and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. 【Result】 The results showed that when the irrigation quota was the same, the plant height, leaf area, SPAD value, root fresh weight and root dry weight decreased with the increase of salt content, when the salt content was the same, the indicators of cotton seedlings showed a tendency to increase and then decrease with the increase of irrigation quota; under the interaction of water and salt, the plant height, leaf area, SPAD value, root fresh weight and root dry weight of cotton treated with I2T1 increased by 33.74%, respectively, compared with CK treatment. 29.79%, 18.96%, 128.70%, 28.20%; the photosynthetic parameters and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of cotton treated with I2T1 were the best. 【Conclusion】From the comprehensive analysis of cotton seedling growth and physiological indicators, an irrigation quota of 0.8 ET and a salinity of 50 mmol/L are suitable for the growth of seedlings of the early maturing cotton "Zhongmian 619".
