Study on Well-canal Conjunctive Mining Mode for Hetao Irrigation District based on MODFLOW

Abstract:
【Objective】Explore the appropriate well-canal conjunctive mining mode under different hydrogeological conditions in Hetao irrigation District. 【Method】A three-dimensional groundwater dynamic model was established, calibrated and verified based on MODFLOW and measured groundwater depths and other datasets. Typical well-canal combination areas were selected in four typical irrigation areas of Hetao Irrigation District, and 4 kinds of well-irrigation areas and 11 kinds of canal-well combination ratio were set up. Then the calibrated model was used to predict the change of groundwater depth under a total of 44 kinds of well-canal conjunctive mining modes. The suitable well-canal conjunctive mining mode in each irrigation area was optimized, according to the standard that the average groundwater depth in the well irrigation area should not exceed 3 m. 【Result】①The established three-dimensional groundwater dynamic model of Hetao Irrigation District fully reflects the variation characteristics of the actual groundwater level, and it can be used to predict the groundwater depth after well-canal combined irrigation. ②Under the condition of the same well irrigation area and canal-well combination ratio, the average groundwater depth in Jiefangzha and Wulanbuhe Irrigation Area is the smallest, followed by Yongji Irrigation Area, and Yichang Irrigation Area is the largest. Isograms of groundwater depth in the typical well-canal combined area of Wulanbuhe Irrigation Area are the densest, followed by Yichang Irrigation Area, and Yongji and Jiefangzha Irrigation Areas are the most sparse. ③When the area of well irrigation area is constant, the average groundwater depth in well irrigation area decreases with the increase of canal-well combination ratio, but the decrease tends to slow down. 【Conclusion】The suitable area of well irrigation area and canal-well combination ratio are different in each irrigation area, because of the difference of hydrogeological conditions. The areas of well irrigation areas in Wulanbuhe, Jiefangzha, Yongji and Yichang should not exceed 12.25 km2, 12.25 km2, 9 km2 and 6.25 km2 respectively, and the ratios of canal to well irrigation area should not exceed 2.5, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.3.
