Effects of Super Absorbent Polymer on Related Characteristics of Banana under Chemical Fertilizer Reduced Fertigation

Abstract:
【Objective】 Excessive utilization of chemical fertilizers is not a sustainable agricultural development strategy due to adverse effects on soil health. On the premise of chemical fertilizer reduction, the effects of soil application of super absorbent polymer on banana yield, nutrient utilization efficiency and economic benefits were investigated in order to provide scientific basis for exploring the key technologies to improve the resource use and production efficiency in acidic soil in Hainan province.【Method】The experiment included three treatments: (i) conventional fertilization(as CK, N 596.8 kg/hm2,P2O5 312.8 kg/hm2,K2O 1 850.3 kg/hm2 ), (ii) 55% reduction of N and P2O5, 50% reduction of K2O(Treatment T1), (iii) 55% reduction of N and P2O5, 50% reduction of K2O + super absorbent polymer(SAP) 219.2 kg/hm2(Treatment T2).【Result】The pseudostem girth and leaf number in the super absorbent polymer treatment were higher than in CK and T1(P<0.05). The yield in treatment T2 was 54 242 kg/hm2, 18.3% higher than CK. Treatment T2 increased the partial factor productivity (PFP) by 144.7% compared with CK. The net income in treatment T2 was 61 700 yuan/hm2 , 137.4% higher than CK. and promote by output-input ratio from 1.22:1 to 1.58:1 respectively. 【Conclusion】Comprehensively compared, the best economic indicators, and fertilizer reduction of the banana fruit were obtained by top-dressing N 268.6 kg/hm2, P2O5 140.5 kg/hm2, K2O 925.2 kg/hm2 , coupling with SAP 219.2 kg/hm2 applyed in soil per year, which also can be regarded as a win-win strategy for mitigating chemical fertilization and green production.
