Abstract:
【Objective】The objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of long-term supplementary irrigation of brackish water on the distribution characteristics of soil water and salt, yield and quality of watermelon in gravel-sand mulched field, providing a theoretical basis for the safe use of brackish water in gravel-sand mulched field. 【Method】Dynamic distribution of soil water and salt in 0-60 cm soil layer, soil bulk density and soil compaction, watermelon yield and quality with brackish water supplementary irrigated years of 2a, 4a, 7a, 10a and 14a and the waste land without gravel-sand mulching as control were studied through field experiment. 【Result】Result showed that the soil salt content increased with the increase of supplementary irrigation years at the tendril elongation and harvest growth period of watermelon. The highest soil salt content appeared in the 20-40 cm soil layer in the wasteland, and in the 40 -60 cm soil layer in the gravel-sand mulched field. The soil moisture contents were increased at flowering and fruit-setting stage with supplementary irrigation of brackish water , but it increased first and then decreased with the increase of irrigated years. From the aspects of soil moisture content distribution, the highest soil moisture content with gravel-sand mulches appeared in the surface layer (0-10 cm), while 10- 20 cm for the wasteland. Compared with wasteland, gravel-sand mulching increased soil bulk density in 0 ~ 40 cm soil layer and soil compaction in 0 ~ 8 cm soil layer, and soil compaction below 8 cm was less than wasteland. The yield and soluble solids content of watermelon decreased and increased first and then decreased with the increase of supplementary irrigation years, respectively. 【Conclusion】Long-term brackish water supplementary irrigation increased soil bulk density and compactness in the upper layer, and also increased soil moisture content and salt content in the gravel-sand mulched field. The yield and quality of watermelon decreased with the increase of brackish water irrigated years.
