Optimization the Irrigation Strategy for Greenhouse Crops Based on CRITIC-TOPSIS Comprehensive Evaluation Method

Abstract:
【Objective】Exploring the optimal irrigation strategy for greenhouse cucumber and melon based on water surface evaporation from a standard evaporation pan (Ep) combination with multi-indicator factor. 【Method】Four irrigation amounts were set for cucumber and melon: 0.5 Ep, 0.7Ep, 0.9Ep and 1.1Ep. The experiment of greenhouse cucumber and melon under drip irrigation was conducted based on the accumulated water surface evaporation from a standard 20 cm diameter evaporation pan. The effects of irrigation amounts on fruit morphological indexes, quality indexes, yield and water use efficiency (WUE) were systematically studied, and the irrigation strategies of the two crops were determined and compared based on the CRITIC-TOPSIS comprehensive evaluation method.【Results】(1) The morphological indices of greenhouse cucumber under the irrigation amount of 0.7Ep and 0.9Ep were significantly better than that other treatments, and the fruit weight and average fruit diameter of 0.7Ep were slightly higher than 0.9Ep, but the fruit number and average fruit length per plant were opposite. The morphological indexes of greenhouse melon were more favorable when irrigation amount was 0.9Ep.(2) For the fruit quality, total soluble solids (TSS), vitamin C (Vc), soluble sugars content (SSC) and soluble proteins content (SPC) of greenhouse cucumbers decreased with the increasing irrigation amount, while maximum Vc, SSC and SPC of melon was 0.7Ep treatment, and maximum TSS occurred in 0.5Ep treatment. (3) The maximum yield of greenhouse cucumber was 96.1 t/hm2 (occurred in 0.9Ep treatment), but the WUE and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) decreased by 17.9% and 32.2% compared with the maximum yield (occurred in 0.9Ep treatment). There was no significant difference in melon yield between 0.9Ep and 1.1Ep irrigation amount, but the WUE and IWUE of 0.9Ep were significantly higher than 0.9Ep by 9.2% and 16.3%. 【Conclusion】After comprehensive evaluation of 11 indicators of cucumber and 10 indicators of melon by using the CRITIC-TOPSIS method, we found that the optimization of fruit morphology, yield, quality and water use efficiency could be achieved when the irrigation amount was 0.9Ep for cucumber and 0.7Ep for melon.
