Research on the optimal root cutting combination for the growth and water use efficiency of rice seedlings

Abstract:
Root cutting is beneficial for crop growth and improves water use efficiency, but the optimal combination of root cutting for rice seedling growth and water use efficiency is unclear. This study focuses on the cultivation of Jingzhan 1 and Luhan 639 rice varieties rice seedlings with two dimensions of root cutting at different times and intensities. On the 7th, 9th, and 11th day of rice seed germination, different combinations of root cutting treatments were performed, including root tip cutting of 1.5cm, root cutting of 1/2, and root leaving length of 2cm, with continuous roots as the control group. A total of 9 treatments were set up in the experiment, with 3 replicates for each treatment, to detect indicators such as seedling vigor index, root to shoot ratio, photosynthetic characteristics, and water use efficiency of rice seedlings. Seven detection indicators were selected to comprehensively analyze and evaluate the growth and water use efficiency of rice seedlings under the combined root cutting treatment using the membership function method. The experimental results showed that on the 9th day of seed germination, Jingzhan "1" had the best seedling growth and water use efficiency under the treatment of 1.5cm root tip; On the 9th day of seed germination, the best growth and water use efficiency of seedlings were observed in the treatment of 1/2 root length of the green drought "639". By conducting comparative experiments to explore the optimal root cutting combination mode for rice seedling growth and water use efficiency, the aim is to provide a basic experimental basis for the development of high water efficiency agriculture in China.
