Abstract:
Using pot experiments, we investigated the impact of irrigation under negative pressure on growth of Chinese cabbage and winter vegetable brassica in attempts to select an irrigation method which could provide the most suitable moisture content for the two vegetables to grow in red-garden and alluvial soils in Southern China. Three water pressures, -5.0, -7.5 and -10.0 kPa were examined, and the results showed that for the red-garden soil the most suitable water pressure was -10.0 kPa with an associated soil moisture content of 18.7%, while for the alluvial garden soil, the most suitable water pressure was -5.0 kPa with an associated moisture content of 25.3%.
