Abstract: |
This paper analyzed the health of the aquatic ecosystem of Zhengzhou part of Jialu River Basin aimed to provide guidance for ecological remediation. Based on the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Environmental Protection for watershed ecosystem health assessment, we established an index system to assess the health of the aquatic ecosystems using remote sensing combined with survey and measurements. We divided the region into four units and assessed the ecological health of each one. The results showed that overall, the health of the aquatic ecosystem in this region was poor, and that the middle reach of the river was ecologically worsen than the upper reach. The main limiting factor to ecosystem health was the obstruction of the river courseand the deteriorated water quality of the river within the urban area. The pressure on the ecosystem health was due to the imbalance between available water resources and the ecological water demand. Hence, remediation of the ecological system of Zhengzhou part of the Jialu River should focus on ecological water supply, alleviating the obstruction to the river course and reducing contaminant loading. |
