Abstract: |
【Objective】 Study the effects of selenium (Se) on physiological characteristics and uptake of plumbum(Pb) and Se of pak choi (Brassica chinensis L.) under Pb stress. 【Method】 Hydroponics experiments were conducted to study the effects of different selenium (Se) levels(1, 2, 4 and 8 mg/L) on physiological characteristics and uptake of plumbum (Pb) and Se of pak choi (Brassica chinensis L.), when exposed for 15 days to different Pb levels (0 and 100 mg/L).【Result】 Shoot height, root length, shoot and root biomass, and chlorophyll content could be improved by a proper amount of Se (Se≤2.0 mg/L) in pak choi leaves. Malondialdehyde (MDA) contents and activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) could be reduced by a proper amount of Se (Se≤2.0 mg/L) in leaves and roots. In the combined Pb-Se treatment, the content of Pb in shoots of pak choi decreased first and then increased with the increase of Se concentration, while the Pb content in shoots was lowest when Se concentration was 2.0 mg/L. The content of Pb in roots of pak choi increased first and then decreased with the increase of Se concentration. 【Conclusion】 The application of Se at 2.0 mg/L has good ameliorating effect against Pb stress in pak choi by inhibiting the transport of Pb from roots to the shoots, thus led to the enrichment of Pb in roots and considerably decrease the Pb content in shoots. |
