Abstract: |
【Objective】Movement and accumulation of solute in the proximity of soil surface in spring and autumn could lead to soil salinity in coastal regions, and the objective of this paper is to experimentally study the efficacy of using straw and film mulching to ameliorate this. 【Method】The experiment was conducted in columns packed with saline soil amended with straw; the soil surface was further mulched by plastic film. During the experiment, we measured water infiltration and evaporation, as well as salt movement and accumulation in the soil. 【Result】 Incorporating straw into the deep soil can slow down water infiltration, thereby improving water and salt distribution and facilitating salt leaching. The straw also suppressed evaporation, thus reducing salt movement and accumulation at the soil surface. Film mulching increased soil moisture in 0~30 cm soil by 11.74%~59.91% compared to without mulching treatment. 【Conclusion】Incorporating straw into deep soil coupled with film mulching can improve water conservation in soil and reduce salt accumulation near soil surface; it can be used to improve agricultural production in coastal areas. |
