Abstract: |
:【Objective】The objective of this paper is to unravel the response of photosynthesis of strawberry leaves to application of exogenous organic selenium at different concentrations.【Method】The experiment was conducted in pots using the variety of “sweet Charlie” as the model plant. Elenomethionine (SeMet) was applied to the pots at a concentration gradient varying from 0 (CK) to 90 mg/L. In each treatment, we measured the photosynthetic pigment content, photosynthetic parameters, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, total plant biomass and sugar content at the fruit growing stage, colour-changing stage and mature stage, respectively.【Result】Applying SeMEt significantly increased the contents of Chl-a, Chl-b and Car, regardless of the growth stages, especially when SeMet concentration was 60 mg/L. Compared with CK, applying 60 mg/L of SeMet increased Chla content by 47.1%, 75.7%, 54.2%; Chlb content by 22.5%, 37.1%, 47.9%, at fruit-growing, colour-changing and mature stage, respectively. Applying SeMet also significantly increased Pn, Gs, Tr and WUE of the leaves, especially when applied at 60 mg/L, which increased Pn by 44.1%, 53.8%, 82.5%; Gs by 29.7%, 39.7%, 90%; Tr by 21.4%, 34.4%, 44%; and WUE by 18.7%, 14.5%, 26.7%, respectively, at the three growth stages. SeMet application also had significant effects on chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. On average, applying SeMet at 60 mg/L was most significant. Compared with CK, applying 60 mg/L of SeMet increased Y(II) by 22.5%, 16%, 20%; Fv/Fm by 1.34%, 21.1%, 9.4%; Fv'/Fm' by 28.9%, 9.5%, 20.9%; ETR by 14.6%, 12.7%, 22.9%. qP by 22.6%, 19.4% , 28.4%; and NPQ by 35.6%, 27.7%, 51.6%, respectively, at the three growth stages. In addition, applying SeMet also increased the total biomass and sugar content, especially at 60 mg/L.【Conclusion】Applying 60 mg/L of SeMet improved leaf photosynthesis, water use efficiency, as well as plant dry biomass accumulation and fruit sugar content. |
