Abstract: |
【Objective】The Yellow River is the second largest river and one of the most important agricultural production basins in China. As such, tremendous efforts have been made over the past decades in attempts to improve irrigation and drainage so as to sustain agricultural production in the basin. In this paper, we analyze different research activities over the past decade from 2009 to 2019 in the basin.【Objective】①The data were sourced from VOSviewer and COOC4.1 using the keywords of irrigation or drainage and Yellow river basin, from which we analyzed the number of papers published in peer-review journals, the journals publishing these papers, authors and their affiliations, as well as the funding organizations.【Result】The average number of papers published annually with focus on irrigation in the basin was 146, compared to 6 with focus on drainage. Work on agricultural engineering, crops, agricultural resources and environment make the most in these publications. Most papers were published by the journal Water Saving Irrigation and the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage, and the highly cited papers were those published in the journal Transactions of the CSAE and the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage. ②Overall, the top two institutions that published most were Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, while for drainage alone the top two institutions that published most was Xi'an University of Technology and Wuhan University. Most papers were funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and/or the National Science and Technology Support Program. ③In irrigation, the hot research topics included water-saving irrigation, management and development of irrigation districts, water diversion for irrigation, film-mulched drip irrigation, and unconventional irrigation; the areas that had attracted most attention and been well studied were Hetao irrigation district, Weishan irrigation district, and Fenhe Irrigation district. In drainage, the hot research topics included controlled drainage, subsurface drainage and drainage management, with areas attracting most interest being Hetao irrigation district, Yinnan irrigation district and the plain network areas.【Conclusion】The main research focus in the Yellow river basin appears to be ecological and environmental pollution, and application of advanced irrigation and drainage technologies and their associated facilities. Along with improving dredging of the diversion channels, the impact of climate change on water resource distribution in the irrigation areas in the basin needs to be considered in the future. In the meantime, water management should consider reforming water prices, improving trading of water ownership, and guaranteeing water security. |
