Abstract:
【Objective】Excessive chemical fertilizer application in agriculture has resulted in non-point source pollution and increasing soil greenhouse gas emissions, which poses a threat to ecological security and agricultural sustainability. Green manure is an environmentally friendly alternative and plays a vital role in mitigating these issues. This paper analyses the research progress and development trends of green manure application in reducing farmland greenhouse gas emissions.【Method】Based on the Web of Science Core Collection database, bibliometric methods combined with statistical software (Origin) and knowledge mapping tools (CiteSpace) was used in this paper. Using multiple analytical perspectives, including publications, researcher collaborative networks, keyword co-occurrence, emergent term detection and co-citation clustering, we systematically analysed the knowledge landscape of green manure application research related to greenhouse gas emissions.【Result】 ① The number of publications and citations in this field has increased rapidly, indicating that the research is in the stage of rapid development. However, researcher collaboration networks are relatively fragmented and limited. ② Current research focuses on synergistic effects of green manure, primarily conducted through model simulations and microbial mechanism analyses. Studies on reducing CH4 and N2O emission account for more than 50% of the total publications, with N2O-related studies increasing significantly to 70%. Research on effects of green manure on reducing greenhouse gas emission and affecting crop yield in paddy fields accounts for more than 50% of the publications, making paddy fields the primary research area for green manure application. ③ Research history of this field can be divided into three distinct stages: initial stage that focused on short-term experimental studies of effects of green manure on reducing soil greenhouse gas emission; middle phase that the focus to long-term effects of green manure application in synergistically reducing soil greenhouse gas emission and increasing crop yields; and latest stage that focuses on in-depth understanding of environmental and microbial mechanisms of green manure application, as well as its benefit assessment.【Conclusion】Current research priorities in green manure applications include model simulations and microbial mechanism analysis, its efficacy in long-term carbon sequestration, and its synergistic effects with other cultivation measures. Future research should focus on assessing its environmental, economic and agronomic benefits, evaluating its long-term effects, improving model accuracy and reliability, and establishing a scientific economic evaluation system to facilitate rational application of green manure.
